MEET JOSEPH SECOLA

Attorney, and former probate judge, Joseph Secola has announced his candidacy for Van Zandt County Criminal District Attorney, pledging to defend the county’s rural heritage, fight disruptive green-energy projects, and restore transparency to the local legal system.

Married for 43 years and the father of six grown children, Joseph Secola and his wife Mary relocated to East Texas after raising their family in Connecticut. He earned his law degree from Oral Roberts University in 1984 and served as a probate judge for 10 years. His personal motto reflects his deep appreciation for this community. “American Born, Texan by the Grace of God.”

WHY I’M RUNNING

Secola believes the trial system must become more efficient so cases are heard in a timely manner. He strongly opposes the routine overuse of plea deals, especially in cases that shock the conscience - such as brutal child-sex-abuse cases - unless those agreements result in significant prison time.

Secola is deeply committed to restoring transparency to the District Attorney’s office. Over the last several years, he has heard from many county residents who have felt ignored, unheard, or shut out of the justice process.

“I want to assure the law-abiding citizens that they will be heard- especially victims’ families.” Secola said. “My guiding principle will always be the health and safety of the law-abiding people of this county.”

PUTTING THE PUBLIC FIRST

“Van Zandt County is ready for a change.” Secola said. “I want to utilize the office of County Attorney to vigorously oppose all green-new-scam projects in the county. I will use every legal tool available- including lawsuits- to fight each and every project that threatens our land as a public nuisance.”

Secola pledges to stand against any development that endangers the county’s ecosystem, including wind farms, solar farms, and lithium battery facilities.

“While we welcome new businesses to our county, we do not welcome projects that would alter the agricultural character of our community,” he added. “We are a county of farms and cattle ranches. We must preserve our heritage and refuse to become a dumping ground for so-called green projects that destroy natural resources and our way of life.”

“Public service is not about status; it’s about stewardship. It’s about standing for what is right, even when it’s unpopular and trusting God to handle the rest. If we want a different outcome for this county, we need leaders willing to walk in truth and pursue justice without fear or favor. That is my commitment.”
